Getting Gladwin County Court Records
Figure out which court owns the file before anything else. The 80th District Court keeps district criminal, traffic, civil-infraction, small-claims, summary-proceeding, and district civil records. Circuit records belong to the Gladwin County Clerk. The clerk serves the 55th Circuit Court and holds its seal. Estates, trusts, guardianships, conservatorships, and similar probate matters go through the 17th Probate Court. A city clerk may keep municipal administrative records. But a state-court register of actions never sits there.
- Search MiCOURT Case Search by party name or case number to identify a public case, court, and case history.
- Choose the custodian: 80th District Court for district matters, County Clerk for 55th Circuit records, or the probate court for a probate file.
- For a circuit copy, complete the published request with party names, case number, opening date if known, document description, contact details, signature, and a copy of government-issued photo ID.
- Send a circuit request by email, fax, or mail, or take an urgent request in person. For a district record, call or visit the 80th District Court and ask about inspection, copying, certification, and current fees.
- Pay only the reproduction, certification, card-service, or other charge the clerk confirms, then keep the court’s response with the request details.
Locally documented public channels include MiCOURT, the clerk's phone and counter, circuit email, fax, mail, and urgent in-person submission. The circuit request form lists countyclerk@gladwincounty-mi.gov, fax 989-426-6917, and Gladwin County Clerk, 401 W Cedar Ave, Gladwin, MI 48624. Note that it is a circuit-record route, not a district-court form.
Gladwin County Record Custodians
One courthouse does not mean one record keeper. The county campus at 401 W Cedar Avenue houses the district, circuit, county-clerk, and probate functions. The division decides who can locate or copy a file. For the 80th District Court, call 989-426-9207. Extension 4 routes criminal matters. 5 handles civil. And 6 covers traffic, DNR, and animal-control calls, while 7 is for small claims, summary proceedings, and drunk-driving routing. The court lists no voicemail.
The County Clerk path is 989-426-7351, extension 3, for circuit court records. Published hours run Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Holiday and lunch-hour conditions vary, so confirm before traveling. The probate pages post no separate direct phone line or complete Gladwin probate-copy fee schedule. Ask the courthouse to confirm those details before sending a request.

Court Record Types
A public case history and a full case file are not the same thing. The register of actions is simply the chronological index of public activity in a case. The full file is bigger. It can hold pleadings, process, opinions, orders, judgments, and other filed material. That is the court's call. The court decides whether a given document is public and whether it can be copied. Name the document in your request. Requests work best that way rather than asking for everything tied to a party.
| Gladwin County record type | Primary court route |
|---|---|
| Traffic, city civil-infraction, misdemeanor, felony preliminary-stage, small-claims, summary, and district civil records | 80th District Court |
| Bound-over felony, circuit civil, domestic-relations, and public Family Division records | County Clerk / 55th Circuit Court |
| Estates, trusts, guardianships, conservatorships, and probate treatment matters | 17th Probate Court, subject to access limits |
| Ordinances, council materials, and city administrative records | City clerk, not a court-docket custodian |
- District criminal, traffic, city civil-infraction, DNR, and animal-control case histories and permitted file materials.
- District civil, small-claims, summary-proceeding, judgment, payment, and public post-judgment materials.
- 55th Circuit felony-after-bindover, circuit civil, domestic-relations, and public Family Division records.
- 17th Probate estate, trust, guardianship, conservatorship, and other probate materials subject to access limits.
- Orders, judgments, notices, motions, proof-of-service events, and other public case documents identified by the clerk.
Deeds and other land instruments sit with the Register of Deeds, not the court register of actions. A property dispute can generate both kinds of records. Even so, a deed search is not a court-record search and should not be presented as one.
Gladwin County Circuit Request Form
The Gladwin Circuit Court Record Request Form spells out the clearest local copy-request procedure. The form asks for names first. It wants the plaintiff's and defendant's full names, case number, date opened, a list of requested documents, requester contact information, a signature, and a valid government-issued photo ID. You can submit it by email, fax, mail, or urgent in-person delivery. The clerk then decides whether the item is public and what charge applies.
The form's payment block includes card-information fields. Use them only through the official form or a secure clerk process. Never send payment-card data in ordinary email. The form asks for names first, then the rest. Restricted files require party status or proper authorization. So submitting the form does not by itself entitle you to every document.
Inside a Gladwin County Court Record
The exact public fields depend on case type and court configuration. A MiCOURT case detail can show a lot. It may list identity, parties, assignment information, an upcoming hearing, financial information, and a chronological register of actions. Not every case gets a public detail link, though. Other public case information may be provided electronically on request. But that does not mean every filed PDF is free or directly downloadable.
| Case identity | Case number, type code and description, file date, status, and public disposition or closed date where shown. |
|---|---|
| Parties and counsel | Party names and roles, attorney or prosecutor fields, and limited public identifiers subject to privacy controls. |
| Register of actions | Chronological event date, action label, event number, party or count, officer or clerk, and comment where public. |
| Orders and filings | Public pleadings, process, opinions, notices, motions, orders, and judgments held in the case file. |
| Financial fields | Public balance, costs, fines, restitution, or other financial-order data when the court display includes them. |
Gladwin County Inspection Rules
MCR 8.119 governs trial-court recordkeeping and access. Under the rule, the register of actions is a public access point. That holds unless an entry or case is restricted. Other public information in a case file may also be provided electronically on request. MCR 8.119(J) sets no fee to inspect or retrieve a public record. A lawful reproduction charge can still apply. And a case file never leaves the court office.
Come to the counter with precise identifiers. Bring a case number if you have one, party names as shown on the record, a date range, and the exact document requested. That preparation matters most for a circuit request. The form asks for a document description. Keep the layers straight, too. Inspection is not a copy, and a plain copy is not a certified court document. Michigan judicial-record access guidance lays out the court-rule framework behind this Gladwin County records route.
The statewide guidance draws the key line for Gladwin County: a public register of actions is one thing, and an individual document still requires an access decision by the office that holds it.
Fees and Certified Copies
Copies cost money in Gladwin County. The County Clerk page and the circuit request form both list $10 for a certified court document. True copies add $1 per page. A certification is the clerk's way of confirming a copy is authentic. It says nothing about the merits. It is not an endorsement of allegations and not a summary of the case. The circuit form also shows card-service tiers. No complete larger-tier schedule is published, though. So ask the clerk to confirm the full total before you pay.
| Published circuit item | Amount or status |
|---|---|
| Certified court document | $10 per document |
| True copy | $1 per page |
| Card service, $0.01 to $50 | $1.75 on the displayed form tier |
| Card service, $50.01 to $75 | $2.00 on the displayed form tier |
| Card service, $75.01 to $100 | $3.75 on the displayed form tier |
| District copy or current filing charge | Confirm with 80th District Court; the located district civil schedule is effective July 27, 2017. |
District fines and costs run through GovPayNOW location code 5073. A separate service fee gets added. That payment route is not a record-copy fee schedule. The local traffic schedule on file is dated May 30, 2019. Check current district amounts with the court before relying on it.
Gladwin County District Requests
No Gladwin-specific district-court request form exists to match the circuit form. That gap is a real limitation. It is not a reason to apply the circuit procedure to a district file. Instead, contact Gladwin County's 80th District Court. Name the case and the document you want. Ask about public inspection, copies, certification, and current fees. The court's category extensions can route your question to the right area.
MiCOURT still works for finding a public district case history. For a current court date, use CourtDisplay and the district clerk. A case-history entry is not a calendar. Circuit documents go through the County Clerk's request route. Get the division right before anything is mailed, emailed, or paid.
Gladwin County Privacy Boundaries
Public access to court records only goes so far. Michigan materials identify restrictions involving minors and juvenile proceedings. Personal-protection matters, mental-health matters, sealed records, set-aside convictions, and protected personal identifiers are restricted too. A November 2024 MiCOURT memo says a public user may see a year of birth. More sensitive information stays restricted. The same memo confirms that driver's-license-number searches are unavailable to public users. Michigan's court-record privacy and access policy spells out the nonpublic-record boundary. That boundary applies before a Gladwin County court releases a record.
That policy context explains the limits. A public search result can be restricted even when a case plainly exists or a clerk holds a specific request. Privacy rules, not the docket itself, decide what a Gladwin County search returns.
Rule-based access: Judicial records are governed by MCR 8.119, not the ordinary executive-agency FOIA process. The court may explain that no public record exists when a file is nonpublic or no public record exists.
A nonpublic record is not proof that a person has no court matter. For a permitted redaction or protected-personal-information request, the Michigan courts publish the SCAO protected personal-identifying-information form.
Sealed Records and Public Access
Access to a case history never overrides a sealing order. Nor does it override a category made nonpublic by law. The bindover rule covering matters after July 2, 2024 is a key Gladwin example. The district or municipal record can become nonpublic once a case is bound over to circuit court. The circuit record stays open, while. Note the court level and the search date you used. One unavailable district result is not the whole story of a case.
Go through the court that owns the material and let the clerk decide access. The 80th District Court, the County Clerk, probate court, and city offices each do different jobs. The right question is whether a named public court record can be inspected or copied. A broad agency request cannot pull a judicial file.
